I know what you're thinking: What does my house look like?
I love my home, and I am so lucky to be placed where I am, both in my physical house and in my town. The house is part of a small apartment complex with 12 homes all inside an electric gate. The complex was built pretty recently so the structure feels very solid and modern. Check out the photos below!
My home came with the table and 2 chairs, and for the first few weeks, I spent all my time on that kitchen chair just staring at the wall in front of me. We're talking hours of staring at the wall. It was getting bad. See the blobs on the wall? He now has a name and a backstory. I'm telling you, too many hours were spent staring at that wall. So, I went out and bought my absolute pride and joy-the couch! Now I can be closer to the blobs on the wall! Do I drink my instant coffee wrapped up in the blanket on the couch? Yes, I do. Is non-instant coffee available in Namibia? Not that I've seen. The white box on the wall is my electricity box. You pay for credit in advance and type in the code to receive the credits.
The house has an open floor plan. The kitchen and living room are separated by a bar stool counter. My neighbors all have bar stools, but I have a couch. I think the winner is clear here.
My kitchen, featuring my Spider Hunting Weapons, my malaria suppressant pills that I take every morning, and my filtered water. Every house comes with a refrigerator (I think), but I got the hookup with a stove and oven (except the oven doesn't currently work). All my food is placed on top of the fridge and the microwave holder. I could buy a food storage container, but I simply am too lazy to do so.
I think I have a very nice bathroom. A shower with hot water-what else could a girl want?
This is my spare bedroom turned into a workout room. Workout equipment is a conversation I try to have often, as in, where do you even buy it? My kettle bell is 8kg, and I can't find anything heavier. I could go buy free weights, but options are slim and they are expensive. I found 4kg weights-I mean, they say they are 4kg...but they felt like 2. Like, there is no way that they were 4kg. It threw me off too much to buy them and carry them home. See that brown box against the wall? I'll let you guess what you think is under that box.
I know you were wondering where the second kitchen chair was located. It's in my bedroom! Again, I feel very lucky to have this room. I was given the bed (how old is it?) and the rest of the items I picked up. The room has a built in desk with a mirror with plenty of closet space for me.
I initially thought I could survive with just the blanket on top, but Namibian winter nights are cold! After one unpleasant night, I walked into town as soon as the shops opened and bought the blanket. The women were so excited to teach me the word for cold (mufu) and now we say that word whenever I see them.
Here is my laundry area. See that sink? The odds of me finding a bug in there are nearly 100%. I want to really like this outdoor area, it's the perfect place to bring a chair out and read, but, alas, this is where the spiders live. Enemy territory. The line has been drawn, and I only come out here when it is absolutely necessary for me to do my laundry.
Want to see my place in person? I would love to have you! Just book a flight out here and I will give you a proper visit through my town.
Looks nicer than I expected 👍. So, what’s under the box ?
Love it!
Thank you for sharing. Your place is really nice. James Gruver literally had a hut with dirt floors in Africa. Now, I could handle yours, but Jame's was too harsh for me to live in
